The Rudy Project

Build Update

Update #2: Construction has finished on The Rudy Project house, and proud homeowner is set to move-in next week! We are sending the homeowner and her children lots of luck and love to fill their new home. We look forward to celebrating with them at the Dedication of their house and the picnic shelter later this spring. Check back here often for the latest details on the upcoming Dedication!

Update #1: On June 2, Habitat Catawba Valley broke ground on a new house that is being built as part of The Rudy Project, a campaign to build a Habitat house and a community picnic shelter in honor of late Mayor Rudy Wright. Members of the Wright family were there to kick off the project, along with public officials and members of the Alcantara family, the future owners of the house.

Thank you all for joining us for the groundbreaking ceremony, and a special thanks to the Rotary Club of Catawba Valley for your $2,500 contribution to The Rudy Project!

Annual Fund

Every day, people in our community partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, they achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Habitat is working with women like Carol who lives in a small brick home near Lenoir Rhyne University. Carol is like so many of our Habitat Repairs! applicants. In her 70’s now, Carol and her husband bought the home 43 years ago. Since his death, the home has fallen into significant disrepair, including a broken gas furnace that forced Carol, who needs bottled oxygen for COPD, to keep warm with portable kerosene heaters. Others will face another hot summer or cold winter in a home, long neglected, because there is no money left at the end of the month for basic upkeep and repair.

Habitat also works with families like Billy and Tasha and their two children, Autumn and Gabriel, who live in a well-kept but aging mobile home in the Kool Park area. Billy and Tasha want to have a bit more room, but what they really want is a safe place for their children to play, and the stability their own home will provide. They are hardworking people looking for a path toward a better life.

We continue to believe, no matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life. We deserve to feel strength and stability. We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures. At Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley, this is what inspires us. Through shelter, we empower. Our shared vision is a community where everyone has a decent place to live.

This is why we are asking for your help. Your support of Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley can make this vision become reality. Everyone deserves a decent place to live, and everyone can do something today to make that possible for another family.

There are THREE ways you can give to help us put families on a new path-one where stability and self-reliance are actually obtainable, not just aspirational.
