When 14-year-old Ny’Meir asked his mother, Latoya, if they would ever have a home of their own, she told him to pray about it. “I knew that homeownership was a huge responsibility but that it was also an opportunity that would open so many doors for us,” Latoya said. “I believed that if homeownership was in God’s plans for us, He would help us find a way.”

That’s when a family member introduced Latoya to Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley. Latoya partnered with Habitat Catawba Valley to take financial management classes, perform sweat equity hours, and begin building a decent affordable home of her very own. “Having this house will set up a great, positive atmosphere and stable environment for me and my son. Going through this process and building our house together will allow me and my son to share an experience that we can hold onto for a lifetime. This house will be our safe place for what life pitches at us.”

When people think of Habitat, they often think about swinging hammers and raising walls. But at Habitat Catawba Valley, we know that housing is about so much more than just houses.

We know that a decent, affordable, energy-efficient place to live can remove barriers to opportunity, success, and health that might have been part of a family’s life for years.

That is why Habitat Catawba Valley is so passionate about housing – because we know that strong and stable homes build strong and stable communities. And, we are bold enough to believe that with your help we can build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter – not just for one family but for the whole community. Because we believe that a well-made, efficient, affordable house isn’t just shelter; home is the key to ‘Life Well Crafted’.
