Hope starts with a home.

Celebrating National Homeownership Month

Home is the foundation for a child’s first steps and the shelter for a family’s big dreams. Everyone deserves the security of affordable, attainable, and maintainable homeownership – from building generational wealth to building memories for years to come.

June is National Homeownership Month. Together with housing advocates across the country, Habitat Catawba Valley celebrates the value of homeownership in building vibrant communities and strengthening the American Dream.

Homeownership is directly linked to financial stability, educational attainment, healthier lives, and resilient neighborhoods. Its impact is both collective and personal, providing communities with greater stability and families with a safe place to thrive.

Homeownership remains a key method for creating and passing down generational wealth, offering a sense of control over one’s environment … and one’s future.
Right now, rapidly rising housing costs remain a significant hurdle for too many neighbors, threatening the foundation of the American Dream.

Parents who can’t afford to purchase are stuck paying rent that will never build equity. Families who can’t afford repairs are at risk of losing their home and their foundation. Neighbors who can’t afford financial education miss the opportunity to build a more secure future.

During National Homeownership Month – and always – Habitat Catawba Valley helps families build strength through shelter:

  • Habitat’s homeownership program opens doors to financial security and stronger futures.
  • Habitat’s repair program preserves homes and protects a family’s legacy.
  • Habitat’s community education classes help neighbors understand their buying power and
leverage resources to build better beginnings.

You can join the movement this National Homeownership Month. Your gift to Habitat Catawba Valley opens doors, repairs dreams, and educates for opportunity.

You can be the momentum that powers this movement. Join us this June in ensuring that the transformational dream of affordable, accessible homeownership is preserved this month – and always.

Together, we build pathways of change.

Patricia’s Journey Home

Patricia's Homeownership Journey with Habitat

Patricia has always built her life around one goal: a better future for her children. As a devoted mom of six, she’s never shied away from hard work. She went back to school, juggled responsibilities, and made every decision with her family in mind.

“I’m very family oriented,” she says. “I’ve always tried to do all I can to make sure my children have a good life.”

So when the chance arose to buy the home she’d been renting, Patricia took it. The house—built around 1900—was worn and fragile. But it was hers. And to Patricia, homeownership meant more than a roof overhead. It meant stability, safety, and new possibilities for her
children’s future.

But the reality of the home quickly set in. Beneath its surface were serious problems—ones that put her family’s safety at risk and strained her finances. That’s when Patricia turned to Habitat Catawba Valley.

Together, we got to work. The unsafe front porch was repaired so her children could come and go safely. Gutters and downspouts were
added—protecting the home from water damage for the first time in its long history. And when a deeper issue was uncovered—a rotting floor system—Habitat stepped in to replace it, restoring strength and stability from the ground up.

Today, Patricia’s home is more than standing—it’s secure. Because of this work, her children have a safer place to grow, learn, and dream. And Patricia can keep doing what she’s always done: building a better life for her family, one strong step at a time.
