Under Construction Vacation Bible School logo

Many churches are proclaiming “Under Construction," the Habitat for Humanity Vacation Bible School curriculum, a resounding success.

The material uses a construction metaphor to help children learn about community and introduces them to the ministry of Habitat. Boys and girls have made crafts that they presented to homeowners, and others have raised hundreds of dollars for local affiliates.

Through examining the Scriptures and participating in practical Christian service, children and their adult leaders put faith into action.

“The adults were as excited as the children,” said Jeffrelyn Arterburn of Collierville (Tenn.) United Methodist Church. “The children really liked the building projects. Everyone was anxious to come back the next day to see what we were going to do.”

Smyth & Helwys Publishing, which created the resource in consultation with Habitat for Humanity International, distributes the curriculum. Find out more about "
Under Construction" on the Smyth & Helwys web page.

In addition to the "Under Construction" curriculum, there are opportunities to take a tour of Habitat's construction site, prepare snacks or lunches for volunteers, or to build birdhouses or other items to be used as fundraisers.  E-mail or call the Volunteer Coordinator at (828) 328-4663 opt 5.
